Who We Are
WindyHill Equine Rescue and Rehoming is a non-profit rescue organization dedicated to saving horses that find themselves in the dire situation of being on a kill lot awaiting imminent shipment outside of the US for slaughter.
It is estimated that 92% of these horses are healthy and could have lived out a productive life. We believe that no horse deserves this fate and that all of them deserve a second chance.
As a rescue organization, we strive to save some of these horses and permanently rehome them with loving, responsible owners.

How You Can Help
Care of rescue horses is expensive. Almost every horse that comes from a Kill Lot is sick in various degrees when rescued. Many are very underweight and some even emaciated.
Our horses that we rescue go through quarantine, receive necessary antibiotics, have their feet trimmed, they are vaccinated, dewormed, vet checked and treated as needed. They have been loved, cared for and pampered for their emotional trauma. Once they are able and if they are sound, we train or restart them as needed.
We use Natural Horsemanship methods to build a solid foundation of trust and an understanding of leadership in order to make them great equine partners with a future.
It is a beautiful thing to see their spirit and personalities return and come back to life once they know they are safe. And once trained or restarted, wonderfully rewarding when we help them to find their forever family.
